Notice Regarding the Impact of the 2024 Noto Peninsula Earthquake

2024/01/19

We extend our sincerest condolences to the victims and bereaved families of the Noto Peninsula Earthquake that occurred in January 2024 and our deepest sympathies to those who are still suffering amid difficult conditions.

TRE HOLDINGS (Tokyo: 9247) would like to communicate details regarding the impact of this natural disaster on the TRE Group (group companies in Ishikawa prefecture) was as follows.

1. Personal injuries

No personnel in the Company or Group had been injured.

2. Impact on facilities

(1) Monzen Clean Park Co., Ltd. (Wajima city, Ishikawa):
The Monzen final disposal site, located near the epicenter of the earthquake, suffered damage, as described below. However, as it was scheduled to open in mid-January 2024, waste had yet to be disposed of at the site, and there are no concerns about waste spills or other problems.

  1. The Wajima municipal road, which serves as a waste delivery route, and National Route 249, which runs alongside the upper slope of the road, have both been cut off by a landslide covering several tens of meters, making them impassable to vehicles and heavy machinery. With safety as the top priority, we are working with construction companies and others to open these roads to traffic by the end of January.
  2. At this time, there appears to be no damage to the waterproof sheets lining the disposal site, but some sheets have shifted due to surface uplift and other factors. At the water treatment facility, an outer wall partially collapsed, but no chemicals have leaked outside.Cabinets and other office equipment fell over in the administrative building, but we have confirmed that there is no major damage to its exterior. There are also cracks in the asphalt of paved roads on site and the temporary soil cover site, as well as some damage to a green slope area and the fence surrounding the disaster prevention regulating pond.

In response, the construction company responsible for the construction of the Monzen final disposal site is also onsite and has jointly formulated a restoration work schedule.

The entire Group aims to opening the site in approximately six months.

(2) Hokuriku Environmental Services Co., Ltd. (Kanazawa city, Ishikawa):
Damage at the head office, collection and transportation vehicle bases, and the controlled waste disposal site were all minor. There are no issues with our waste acceptance operations, and normal operations have been underway since January 5.

We will continue making every effort to support restoration and recovery efforts centered on the disposal site until the commencement of operations at Monzen Clean Park.

3. Disaster recovery and reconstruction support projects

Regarding first responses, the highest priority is on lifesaving, search and rescue, and the restoration of lifelines (garbage disposal, temporary toilets, etc.). We have already dispatched three garbage trucks from each Group company. From now on, we expect the successive removal of waste materials and their delivery to temporary storage facilities. We will dispatch Group workers in close cooperation with the government, the Industrial Waste Association Of Ishikawa Pref., and its member companies.

Additionally, Hokuriku Environmental Services Co., Ltd. and TAKEEI CORPORATION (Minato-ku, Tokyo) are preparing for involvement in reconstruction support projects of Okunoto areas, including Wajima and Suzu, which are closer to the epicenter and more seriously damaged.

4. Impact on business performance

Monzen Clean Park is expected to open in six months, and at present, we are carefully examining impacts on performance related to restoration work at the controlled waste disposal site. We will promptly disclose details as soon as they become clear, along with the overall impact on the Group related to restoration support projects.

For approximately three years after the Great East Japan Earthquake, TRE Group dispatched a large number of personnel to disaster reconstruction projects, and at present, we are still involved in reconstruction efforts in Fukushima Prefecture. Further, Group companies and business sites located in this region have played a central role in disaster recovery support after Typhoon No. 15 and 19, which hit eastern Japan in 2019, and in reconstruction support projects related to offshore earthquakes in Fukushima Prefecture that occurred in 2021 and 2022.

As a comprehensive environmental company, all Group executives and employees will cooperate and bring together experiences and know-how accumulated over the years to quickly and accurately contribute to the recovery and reconstruction of affected areas
